Tamara Avila

Tamara graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she double majored in Sociology with a concentration in GISES and Latin American & Latino Studies along with a minor in Legal Studies.

During her studies at UCSC, she worked as the News/Talk Director and Station Manager for the radio station, KZSC where she also hosted a weekly music show, Memorias de Martes. Tamara was a peer advisor for the Sociology department, where she helped mentor and guide students during their time at the university, and an intern for the Office of Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-19). Through her Latin American major, she interned for a non-profit organization focused on indigenous advocacy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her GISES concentration allowed her to conduct her own research group in Monteverde, Costa Rica where she taught digital tech tools to local non-profits. She has a strong passion for social justice, advocacy, and communication. In her free time, Tamara loves to roller-skate, crochet, watch movies, and drag!
